When Jimmy Met Kudo – Project Natal on Late Night

Former Saturday Night Live fourth-wall breaker, Jimmy Fallon, promised when he took over the reigns of “Late Night” from former host Conan O’Brien that he would bring his love for video games with him, giving them equal coverage on the show just as he would any other media. So far, he’s proven true with his claim: bringing on G4′s Morgan Webb to demo Punch-Out!! and sending SNL’s Jason Sudekis to cover last week’s E3 extravaganza.

Tonight, he brought Microsoft’s resident “BAM!”-meister, Kudo Tsunoda (and his sunglasses), on the show for a live demo of Project Natal. What resulted was…well, you decide for yourself. Here’s the video, courtesy of Hulu.com.

The orange jumpsuits were a questionable choice, in my opinion. Kudo doesn’t need any extra help looking silly. And speaking of kudos, some are due to The Office‘s John Krasinski and True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer for being good sports and playing along. Moyer actually seemed to do the best out of all of them (Tsunoda excepted) at the Ricochet portion of the presentation and at least we got to see the Burnout Paradise demo rig that we heard mentioned from E3 in action.

Still, while I don’t doubt Fallon’s love for games, this was, much like the Morgan Webb visit, a cringe-worthy affair. Stop looking so damn uncomfortable up there and feeling like you have to make people laugh during a video game segment, Jimmy. Their natural inclination is to laugh already. You’re supposed to be showing them that this is viable, mainstream entertainment, right?
