When gamers truly want to, their powers can be harnessed for good instead of stupid. Proof comes that the dedicated efforts of fans (and some judicious price drops) can indeed help a struggling video game find traction in the midst of a flailing economy and store shelves crowded with crap. Sega’s PlayStation 3 exclusive, the critically lauded but criminally undersold Valkyria Chronicles, posted huge sales numbers in April.
How huge, you ask? How does a 400% increase over the previous month’s numbers sound to you?
“There may be no louder testament to the power of a hardcore fanbase and continued support from developers and publishers than this,” reads a quote, in part, from Sega of America’s blog. While Sega didn’t divulge actual numbers, inbetween gushing love for their fans and fist-pumping the air, triumphantly, they did say that April’s numbers almost pushed as many units as were sold when the game launched back in November of last year.
Good news for Sega and good news for fans of Valkyria Chronicles. This definitely makes the prospect of a sequel a more likely event. Pat yourselves on the backs, VC fans – you deserve it. Job well done.

I’m pretty far in this game and it’s really damned challenging. But in a good way! I’m happy to see SEGA was successful w/ the sales surge!
