So let’s say you like the fast paced, combo-centric, supernatural ass-kicking action of a Devil May Cry but you can’t stand that insufferably cool Dante (or his late-series counterpart, Nero). Maybe you have a genetic condition that gives you rashes every time you see white haired pretty-boys in red and black. Maybe your father died when his stylish long-coat got pulled into the gears of your family’s combine and you think the character’s fashion sense is mocking your pain. We’re not judging you here at CFD! – that’s not our place.

We are here, however, to tell you there’s an alternative for you: Bayonetta.

How’s that? A little better for ya? A saucy witch who not only wields a pair of guns, but two more strapped to her feet. Not enough? Fine – see that skintight outfit? Yeah, that’s actually made from her hair, which she can animate and turn into, well, stuff: dragons, giant feet, etc. And even though she’s got a lot of hair, when she’s making animated golems from it to destroy enemies, this tends to leave her a bit…exposed.

Does it help at all that she looks like Sarah Palin? I’m not bringing politics into this, but I’m sure that’s going to push somebody’s triggers. Far be it from me to disparage someone’s choice of daydream material.

Okay, fine – the team behind Bayonetta is Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Devil May Cry series, and Platinum Games. Ah! We knew something would get your attention.

Have some more screenshots from E3 2009 under the cut to go with the trailer above. We insist.
