If you listened very, very closely at the end of EA’s E3 press conference on Monday, you could hear a sound. That sound was every single Star Wars fan in the country, from those actually at the event to the rest watching the live stream on television or online, geekgasming simultaneously. The following trailer is why.
Sure, it may only be a CG cinematic…but what a cinematic! Epic Jedi versus Sith combat! Hot twi’leks dual wielding pistols! Hot Mandalorians firing rockets and flamethrowers! Crashing a ship through the front doors of the Jedi Temple! Coruscant in flames! I don’t know about you, but I needed a second to catch my breath when I saw it for the first time.
And then we have the ambitious nature of the game itself. Star Wars: The Old Republic will be the first MMO to be fully voiced. Hundreds of thousands of lines of dialogue will be recorded in an effort to make SW: TOR one of the most immersive experiences out there; I hate to imagine the install size of this beast. Also, every single class in the game will have their own fully fleshed out storyline, making for massive replayability, even for an MMO. An ambitious project, to be sure, but if anyone has the storytelling chops to pull this project off, it would be the good Doctors at Bioware.
