For those of you who have spent the last year or so living beneath a rock in fear of an imminent alien invasion, Professor Layton and the Curious Village was a game released for the DS in February of 2008. The game featured stylized graphics and placed characters in a toonier version of 1800′s Europe. Players took on the roles of Professor Layton and his assistant, Luke, to solve a variety of puzzles, ranging from logic puzzles to simple brain teasers, in order to progress in the story. It was well received, even by B-list celeb Lisa Kudrow, for its interesting style and addictive gameplay.
For those of who you don’t believe in aliens or simply figure the invasion is coming at a later date, good news! The sequel to Curious Village, announced earlier this year at GDC, has finally gotten a release date. While we here at CFD! would love to keep with the spirit of the game, we figured it was best to simply give you the release date instead of having to scour Google to find out when the waxing crescent would be taking place in the great month of Caesar.
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box will hit North American shelves on August 24th, allowing players to solve the mysterious death of Professor Layton’s mentor, Dr. Schrader. The new game will feature downloadable content just like Curious Village, with a new puzzle being released every week for 33 weeks, on top of the 150 puzzles already present in the game. Diabolical Box will also contain more animated scenes and voice acting than its predecessor. For those of you fretting that, after this second entry, there will only be one game left in the trilogy, fear not! There’s an entirely new trilogy on deck when the current one finished.
New screenshots are under the cut.
