Watchmen: The End is Nigh Bound for Retail Shelves

Watchmen: The End Is Nigh LogoNews begins to trickle in today regarding Deadline Games’ movie tie-in to this spring’s graphic novel-turned-movie epic, Watchmen. 1UP reported earlier today that during an interview at the Nordic Game Conference, Deadline’s Søren Lund said that both episodes of Watchmen: The End is Nigh would be sold together on a retail disc most likely shipping alongside the Blu-Ray and DVD release of the movie on July 21st or thereabouts. A press release with more information was supposedly due to follow.

The first chapter, which was actually CFD’s premiere review, was released via download only to less than stellar reviews. A second (and possibly more) chapters were announced, but nothing had been heard since then. Some rumors of Deadline being in difficult financial straights made some wonder if the follow-ups would see the light of day at all.

Then, just a few minutes ago, Kotaku posted more details (seemingly from said press release) stating that PlayStation 3 would be packing both chapters in with the Blu-Ray director’s cut of the film while Xbox 360 saw a stand-alone disc release. The July 21st date was confirmed, along with the fact that the second (and presumably final?) chapter would be available on both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network for download as well.

As someone who enjoyed, albeit with reservations, the first chapter and a fan of all things Watchmen, I’m torn by this announcement. While I would love to have the director’s cut on Blu-Ray, I also already purchased the first chapter on Xbox Live and I hate re-buying things. Meh. Looks like I have some time to make my decision, I guess.

  1. Pretty sweet deal for the Blu-Ray. A fine use of space =D

  2. Slightly annoying for those of us who already own the first part of the game though.

Also, makes me wonder how much they’ll be charging for it. Blu-rays are expensive enough as it is (which sure as hell isn’t helping the adoption rate).
