Konami confirmed last week’s announcement of a remake of the first Silent Hill today. In addition, they announced that Silent Hill: Shattered Memories would also be bound for PSP and PlayStation 2.

Climax, the team that brought us Silent Hill: Origins, will be helming this twisted re-envisioning of Konami’s flagship survival horror franchise. And while both the PlayStation 2 and PSP versions are said to have additional exclusive content of their own, the Wii-make seems to be taking a more immersive route, at least when it comes to the control scheme.

harrymasonphonefinal.jpgAccording to the press release, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories will take full advantage of the Wiimote’s various unique features to draw you more deeply into the plight of protagonist Harry Mason. It will serve as his cellphone, allowing him access to area maps via GPS and take pictures of interesting environmental elements, as well as his flashlight; we really shouldn’t have to explain why you’ll need one of those in Silent Hill, right? All of this is in addition to being able to pick up, manipulate and interact with various items and puzzles that Harry will find along the way.

Shattered Memories’ psyche profile system will also monitor how you play the game – from what areas you explore first and what items you interact with to how your react to those you meet in game. Based on your play style, the game will react and adapt to your actions, opening new pathways and creating a different experience potentially every time you play.

I have to say that the more I hear about this game, the more I’m looking forward to it. I can only hope it meets the standard it seems to be setting for itself in these early previews. The Silent Hill: Shattered Memories forecast predicts heavy fog with scattered bouts of insanity this Fall.
