Winter’s cold is on its way out the door – time to put those bulky, oversized coats away and break out your finest spring wear. And Sony is offering some beautiful new money hats to complement your new ensemble, too! What’s the catch, you ask? Simple – make your downloadable title exclusive to PlayStation Network.
Speaking with IGN, SCEA’s Chris Eden announced Sony’s newest incentive for indie developers: the Sony Pub Fund. Essentially, in exchange for making their offering exclusive to PlayStation Network, Sony offers developers not only help with game design and marketing, but also matching the project’s development budget with guaranteed royalties. Sounds like a boon for the aspiring indie house looking to break into the big time, especially considering that under the terms of the plan the developers still retain ownership of the IP and full control of the project, including setting the price. The first title developed under this plan, Burn, Zombie, Burn! just hit PSN, so go check it out if you want to see the juicy, brain-hungry fruits of their labor.
Sounds interesting enough to me. If I were an indie dev team, I’d probably jump at the chance. After all, PS3 certainly needs all the quality exclusives, download or otherwise, that it can get.
