On the eve of the Resident Evil 5 release, Capcom us unleashing the zombie horde upon us. First up today is the announcement of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. This sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, positioned to hit Wii this winter, is an on-rails shooter similar to its predecessor.
Set during Resident Evil 2′s timeframe, players take on the roles of series veterans Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield in either 2-player co-op or, for those lacking friends, with an A.I. controlled partner. A Wiimote based “Evade” system is also mentioned as one of the new features available.
Mona Hamilton, Capcom’s VP of Marketing, had this to say:
“We are always looking for new ways to give Capcom fans a chance to experience our games. Umbrella Chronicles was a huge success for us, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles includes a more in-depth co-op experience, and we are excited to bring this exclusive content to the Wii audience.”
Announced at the same time were re-releases of the GameCube exclusives Resident Evil Zero and the remake of the original Resident Evil (which would be a port of a remake of the original…bit convoluted there). Both of these would have the usual refitted Wii-controls and retail for $29.99 each.
Can’t say as I’m at all surprised that Capcom is riding the wave of RE-hype and jumping on the port train to Wii-town. I can say that I’m not too keen on this $30 pricing trend for re-releases when the Cube originals can be found at a fraction of that. Regardless, check the RE:TDC screens under the cut.
