Need a break from your crippling WoW addiction? Looking for another potential time sink to sap your will to live and turn you into even more of a social recluse? Well EA and Mythic Entertainment have got some candy for you…and the first hit’s free, kid!

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is now offering a 10-day free trial to allow you a sample taste of the MMO based on Games Workshop’s classic miniatures wargame.

“A call to arms has been issued! With the new free trial we are making it possible for everyone to experience non-stop Realm vs. Realm combat wrapped up in a next generation MMO,” said Mark Jacobs, VP and General Manager of Mythic Entertainment. “What started out as a great game has only gotten better as the team has added an incredible amount of content with our first live expansion. For gamers that have yet to experience the glory of WAR, there is no better time to join the battle!”

Trial players get to partake in the current Bitter Rivals live event, offering unlockable head starts on the upcoming Dwarf Slayer and Orc Choppa classes.

I will admit that I’ve been mildly curious about checking this one out since it was announced. Looks like it may be time for me to try it out. I mean, I can quit anytime I want, right?

…right?

I’ve got WoW time and and EVE Online account active right now, and I’m resisting both. This shit needs to stop popping up — I need to maintain my life! :(

DON’T DO IT, ROB. STAY AWAY.

If you like PvP then Warhammer might be the game for you. If you want PvE content and end game activities you will find Warhammer lacking in those departments. Still the world is crafted well and some of the classes are really fun so you might get a few months of fun out of it.

Ced: Thankfully, I rarely get addicted to these things – the closest I got was the year+ that I played City of Heroes and that was only because I got involved in a good circle of players. My WoW excursions never last more than a month or so at a time.

Dingy: Is the PvE really that lacking/weak? I know they pimp the PvP a lot in this game, but I didn’t think they would give the PvE game the short end of the stick because of it…hrmm.

I’m comparing the PvE content to WoW which is the only other MMO that I have played. The PvE content in Warhammer might be better now with some of the patches that they released but back at launch very few people were doing PvE unless they were waiting for a queue to pop. Most of the solo quests were simple fetch this, kill them, and go here quests but the rewards gained from the PvE content didn’t match the rewards gained from PvP. Then to make things worse the Public Quests could only be completed if you had enough people to finish the last few stages. Once players leveled beyond the first few PQ’s it was difficult to complete them because the player base had moved on.
